真栄田のウミガメ

おじぃビーチでのサンセットスイム





海からあがりビーチに戻ると、ウミガメがそろそろ海に還ろうと砂の下でモゴモゴしていました



１時間ほどすると、砂の中からちっちゃなカメたちがヒョコヒョコ姿をのぞかせ海に向かってまっしぐら



本当はライトやカメラなど使用したり、人がわんさか見ていたりするのは不自然な事なのですが、真栄田の子ども会の会長さんやウミガメ見守り隊の子どもたちも一緒にみんなでウミガメたちが海に還って行くのを見届けました

今年もたくさんのウミガメが産卵のためにやって来ている、真栄田のビーチ。
夜になると真っ暗闇になる真栄田のビーチはウミガメにとっては絶好の産卵場所なのだそう。
ルカイや私たちにとって、この環境で生活できることを本当にありがたいと感じ、自然に囲まれた真栄田の環境をいつまでも大切にしていきたい、とウミガメたちを見送って改めて思いました

This was one of those magical days that is hard to explain in words...Komaki, Rukai and I enjoyed a very beautiful sunset swim at Ojii's Beach. The sky turned into a blaze of different colors, only to be outdone by the miracle of life as baby turtles began emerging from their nesting site and made their march down to the sea under the moonlight. A mother sea turtle can lay over 100 eggs, but out of those who make it down the beach and into the sea, only a few, if any, may survive as their life as juveniles is filled with danger...Those few will roam the oceans, and if they are females, they will one day return to the same coastline to lay their own eggs. The beginning of their journey is similar to the sunset that we watched...A very precious moment.
