The weather cleared a bit and we took Rukai reef walking amongst the tide-pools at Hayubama Beach in Maeda. Rukai was really happy to see the fish again, but this time he discovered the slimy sensation of holding a sea cucumber and the prickly feeling of a sea urchin resting in his palm....Every step we took he looked for another sea cucumber to kidnap and hold! There are a few small caves that remain filled with water when the tide recedes, but the water is fairly cold since there is little sunlight that enters. We took Rukai for a swim here and he shivered, laughed, and splashed around, enjoying the icy sensation on his skin. As we looked around at the sea, corals, fish, and blue sky, Komaki and I kept saying to ourselves, "We are so lucky to live here!"
