ケニーのガイドブックOKINAWA explorerに新しく載せる情報リサーチのため『ファーマーズマーケットいとまん』へ行って来ました

同じ敷地内にはフィッシュマーケットも。


フィッシュマーケットの隣には道の駅がありそこで美味しいアイスクリームも売られていました。


沖縄の新鮮な野菜や果物を安く買えるし、お土産も調達出来るので観光客の方々にもおすすめ
空港からもすぐ近くなので余った時間をここで過ごすのも良さそうです。


We finally made it down south to the new Itoman fish and produce market. Itoman has changed quite a bit over the last ten years with lots of development, including huge landfill projects for new seaside communities. I always have mixed feelings when I see such changes. I long for the old, traditional Okinawa with small "mom and pop" stores and old Okinawan houses. But, I also realize that change is inevitable and many young Okinawans crave shopping malls, new places to enjoy a meal and a drink, and more modernization. Even a number of older Okinawans associate the "old Okinawa" with hard times, so new construction for them is a sign of progress. For me, Okinawa is developing too fast and the new buildings, although modern, lack a sense of soul and Okinawan identity. They are what they are; just concrete walls.

I remember coming down to Itoman about five years ago and spending a beautiful night with Daniel and some other close friends, drinking and talking. The next day we managed to wake up early and made some Okinawan ninjin shirishiri (sauteed shredded carrots with tuna), a simple but delicious dish. We took the ninjin shirshiri and some drinks down to Odo and snorkeled....The sky was a brilliant blue and the colors of the sea were changing as the clouds floated above us. There were some older fisherman who we shared conversation and drink with, and it seemed like the the perfect "Okinawan" day. Besides for Daniel, he is the only friend that we still see from that "perfect day" in Itoman. Like the buildings, people and friends also change and move on...
