Our neighbor, Kinjo-san, popped over this morning with a "Yashi-gani" (palm tree crab) that had found its way into his yard. As it raised itself up showing its huge outstretching claw, Rukai safely kept his distance without anyone having to tell him to do so...One look at the claw and he knew! Apparently, this crab when cooked right tastes like a lobster and is still eaten in some of the southern islands. Here, it is protected because of its dwindling numbers....In case you are all wondering...No, we didn't eat this one! He is free to roam the yard and scare Rukai if he gets too close!
